Brigittenau is the 20th district of Vienna. The northern part of it, formed by the Danube Canal and the Danube mainstream, was mostly uninhabited alluvial land until the regulation of the Danube in 1875. After that, development began in the late Wilhelminian street grid. The district is characterized by buildings from the Wilhelminian period, the interwar period and the post-war period, as well as numerous traffic and industrial facilities, which, however, have been gradually transformed into residential areas in the last two decades.
Austria's largest shopping center has been in existence since 1976 and is also one of the largest shopping centers in Europe. With over 192,500 m² of retail space, the SCS offers room for more than 300 commercials, gastronomic and entertainment businesses and also houses its own cinema. With 10,000 parking spaces, the SCS is primarily geared towards car traffic and enjoys great popularity even beyond the country's borders. Every year, more than 23 million visitors from Austria to Hungary and Slovakia visit the SCS and it offers a unique brand selection and shopping experience.

The Danube Canal, once also called the Viennese Water or Viennese Arm, is the arm of the Danube running through the center of Vienna. The Danube Canal branches off from the Danube in the 19th district near Nussdorf and rejoins it at Praterspitz. Of Vienna's 23 districts, almost a third benefit from this extraordinary stretch of water: downstream on the right side, one after the other, are districts 19, 9, 1, 3, and 11; on the left side, districts 20 and 2. Especially on nice days, the bustle of people on the canal can be observed, especially at the level of Leopoldstadt, since a large number of restaurants and bars have established themselves here. Anyone who has experienced the afternoon sun here knows that the Danube Canal is a great place for relaxing moments with family and friends. Those who prefer to spend their free time in sportswear will also get their money's worth: upstream and downstream there is enthusiastic cycling, jogging, walking and much more.
